We are among the many citizens of Highland Park, University Park, and Greenway Park who have serious concerns about the Town of Highland Park’s proposed changes to Mockingbird Lane. To make our voices heard, we have formed the Concerned ParkCites Residents for Mockingbird Committee.

This site has been created to provide information the upcoming construction and collect names and email addresses of other concerned citizens that are effected by the planned construction.

The goals of the committee are:

  1. To ensure that all neighborhood citizens have a voice in the design plans for added lanes to Mockingbird
  2. To voice our concerns about the lack of input residents have had in the preliminary design process
  3. To ensure that the designs take into consideration the high pedestrian traffic in our neighborhoods, and to put a premium on their safety
  4. To voice the concerns of Bradfield & Armstrong parents who worry about the safety of their children walking to and from school
  5. To lobby for improved pedestrian crosswalks, particularly adjacent to schools
  6. To lobby against narrower greenways along Mockingbird which will bring cars closer to sidewalks where our children and residents walk
  7. To raise money to engage a Traffic Consultant to offer expert advice on the Town of Highland Park’s proposed plans
  8. To keep Mockingbird Lane from becoming a thoroughfare and generating unwanted congestion, noise and pollution from added traffic

In particular, we question:

  • The necessity and desirability of additional lanes planned to be added between the Tollway and Lomo Alto, behind Highland Park Village, and adjacent to Bradfield Elementary School.

  • The narrowing of greenways along Mockingbird (bringing cars closer to children and other pedestrians).

  • The assumption that wider streets and additional lanes will not bring additional vehicle traffic to our neighborhoods.

Please join us in our efforts.  We all must act immediately if we are to influence the design process already underway.  We ALL have an interest in preserving the safety, quality, and value of our neighborhoods.
